Jill M Brekken

I have been a Physical Therapist Assistant since 1994. I began my career in an acute care setting and have spent the last 17 years in an outpatient orthopedic setting. I own a Physical Therapy clinic, Ascension Physical Therapy with two other exceptionally talented providers. While treating patients it came to my attention how powerful the stress response was and the profound effect it could have on the nervous system. It was then that I began studying Yoga and Meditation, and in 2003 I became a registered Yoga instructor. I have been teaching mindful meditation for the last 10 years and work to bring mindfulness into my treatment sessions. In 2003 I discovered CranioSacral Therapy. It has opened up my practice in remarkable ways. I am now able to access the inner wisdom of the patient which allows a healing of all layers of the individual. Patients often come away with decreased pain and symptoms, an improved understanding of themselves, and a new energy towards life.

My Skills

In May of 2010 I was certified by the Upledger Insititue as a CranioSacral Therapist. I have had some of my most positive results with the treatment of head and face pain, headaches, and dysfunction within the dural tube. I integrate CranioSacral treatments within the context of Physical Therapy allowing me to address all aspects of the dysfunction; soft tissue restrictions, joint restrictions, movement dysfunction, and emotional components associated with pain. This whole system approach increases the effectiveness of the treatment and decreases the incidents of reoccurrence of pain and dysfunction.
