Jane Gatanis

About

Jane is a licensed Occupational Therapist and Techniques Certified CranioSacral Therapist. She combines her knowledge of Physical Rehabilitation, Manual Therapy and Healing Arts to provide wholistic care for clients of all ages.  

Professional and volunteer highlights:

• 20 years of hospital based Occupational Therapy including Beth Israel Medical Center, Hospital for Special Surgery, and NYU Rusk Institute in New York City.
• Currently has a private practice of 15 years in Union Square, N.Y. where she treats babies, children, adults and canines.
• Lectures and provides services to outreach programs throughout New York City at major hospitals, community based programs and medical practices including Cornell-Weill Hospital, Soho Parenting and Integrative Pediatrics.
• Presented on CST to the NY American Occupational Association.
• Introduced Upledger "Healing Hands"  to students at the United Nations International School.
• Published an article for the Journal of Occupational Therapy: experienced a year abroad providing O.T. to children with disabilities while working in a refugee camp in Thailand.
• Volunteer support therapist for Trauma Relief : International Upledger CST volunteers providing multiple hands treatment in NYC for victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
• Support therapist for Upledger/Integrative Intention's Dolphin Assisted programs in the Bahamas, and the Intensive Therapy Program in N.M.
• Currently is a volunteer providing CST at the Best Friends Animal Shelter in Soho.

My Skills

Since 1991 Jane has intensively studied CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release with the Upledger Institute, Visceral Manipulation with Jean-Pierre Barral, Lymphatic Drainage with Bruno Chikly and other modalities with the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners. 

She received a BA in Philosophy and Religion of the Far East in 1978 and a MS in Occupational Therapy in 1984. She is a (1991) graduate of the IM School of Healing Arts in New York City. 

Jane has a strong medical background in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation, pediatric Occupational Therapy (developmental and Sensory Integration), and a specialty in unresolved injuries and complex pain.
