About Me
Bruce Schonfeld is the IAHE Modality Developer of FASCIAL INTEGRATION: Structural-Visceral Approaches. His multidisciplinary approach draws from his dual roots in Structural Integration and Visceral Manipulation. Bruce is the Director/Producer of the Documentary Film Series The Secret Life of Fascia.
Bruce Schonfeld is a Certified Advanced Rolfer & Certified Rolfing Movement Integration Teacher. He has taught Structural Integration (SI) since 1996 through IPSB in Los Angeles, the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute, the International Association of Structural Integrators (IASI), and elsewhere. In addition to considerable Continuing Education (CE) studies through the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration, Bruce has trained extensively with two of Ida Rolf's senior instructors, Jan Sultan & Michael Salveson, including taking the Advanced Rolfing Training with them three times.
Bruce has studied Visceral Manipulation (VM) since 1997 with the Barral Institute team including 300+ hours of study directly with Jean-Pierre Barral D.O.. Bruce has additionally trained with Alain Croibier D.O., A.J. de Koning D.O., Olivier Bazin D.O., Gail Wetzler P.T. and Dee Ahern P.T.. He has assisted VM classes extensively with Gail Wetzler P.T.. Bruce has additionally studied Visceral Manipulation and Visceral Mobilization with Didier Prat D.O., Alain Gehin D.O., and Claudia Kohn D.O..
Bruce has studied Craniosacral Therapy since 1994 with the Upledger, Milne and Colorado Craniosacral Institutes.
Bruce's background includes a highly kinesthetic approach to studying anatomy including over 600 combined hours of sculpting anatomy in clay and gross anatomy dissection. Bruce has assisted Peter Coppola PT and Judy Russell PT in several Barral Institute Visceral Dissection Workshops. Bruce is a Team Member of the Fascial Net Plastination Project.
Bruce was a long term student of Continuum studying directly and extensively with Emilie Conrad. Bruce was a Continuum Teacher teaching Jungle Gym Classes at the Santa Monica studio as well as his own original class called 'Movement Carnival' emphasizing fun, inversion, and anti-gravity workouts. Bruce's functional and movement background includes an athletic childhood, 5-Rhythms Dance, and Contact-Improv Dance.
Bruce spent considerable time with the founder of Somatic Experiencing (SE), Peter Levine, both academically and as a body-based client in the early nineties. Bruce has completed the year long training in Bodynamics Developmental Somatic Psychology.
Clinically, Bruce works with clients who want to address their whole body as the main event as well as other clients who want to focus more specifically on troubleshooting orthopedic problems, hands and feet, visceral issues, biomechanical issues, pain problems, scar tissue, and augmenting sports and athletic training.
Bruce additionally consults with clients to improve their personal ergonomics in an effort to reduce and/or eliminate problematic activities of daily life negatively effecting the body. Identifying, experimenting with, and/or modifying activities of daily life is often a very important component to solving the bigger biopsychosocial picture and enhancing the persons quality of life.
