The Pelvic Connection Physical Therapy

About Me

Dr. Mukta Chauhan is one of the few physical therapists in the US with a double board certification in orthopedics and women’s health.

After completing her doctorate in physical therapy, Dr. Mukta began an advanced training program in manual therapy at the renowned Institute of Physical Art (IPA). She continued working in the field of orthopedic PT for a few years until she realized that her understanding of the body was incomplete without learning about the ‘Pelvis’ — considered, as it is, to be the connecting link between the upper body, the lower body, the spine, and the peripheral joints. She decided to go for more advanced training in pelvic health. Because of this dual training, Dr. Mukta understands the delicate interplay between neurophysiology, biomechanics, musculoskeletal, fascial, and organ systems and their combined contribution to a person’s overall well-being. She is a firm believer in addressing health from a bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective because we aren’t just our tissues. The whole person is at the center of her practice. Her extensive training in ‘pain neuroscience’, ‘visceral manipulation’, and 'craniosacral therapy' provides her with a unique opportunity to create an individualized treatment program for the most optimal outcome for her patients.

She is also a huge advocate of women’s/men’s health and believes in ongoing learning and is an active member of the International Society for Studies of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS) and the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners (IAHP). She regularly participates in community education to raise awareness about pelvic health.

In her free time, Mukta is found either biking, running, or hiking. Just being outdoors helps her understand her own body even more deeply.

She lives and practices in New York City. Connect with her on IG @thepelvic.connection
