About Me

Melissa Ommundsen, PT, DPT, WCS, is a board certified specialist in Women’s Health (WCS), through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS). She is a member of the APTA Women’s Health section and the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners (IAHP). She is the founder of Melissa Ommundsen PT, P.C., in Stony Brook, NY.

Melissa received her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Lafayette College in 2001 and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University, in 2006, where she received the class of 2006 award for Clinical Excellence.

Melissa began her pelvic health training through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, while she worked at a private outpatient clinic gaining clinical experience treating patients with various women’s and men’s pelvic health dysfunctions. While receiving great mentorship through her clinical and continuing education experiences, she then began mentoring other clinicians and students in the clinical and academic settings.

Melissa continues to expand her clinical skills and knowledge through additional studies with the Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, the APTA SOWH, the Institute of Physical Art and the Barral Institute.
