About Me

My massage practice began in 2007, and I opened my own business in 2010. My practice primarily focuses on CranioSacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Orthopedic Massage, Myofascial Release and Reiki (see below). I hope you will find my studio in downtown Northville to be a space where you feel safe and cared for.

Previously, I practiced law in Michigan and D.C. for about 20 years; mostly environmental law and also some estate planning. I now volunteer my legal (and other) skills on the Board of Directors at Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy.

For recreation, I enjoy camping, hiking, running, cycling and strength training. I also sing in a band.

I am in a long-term committed relationship with a partner who shares my recreational interests (except for the singing). We live with three cats.

My Skills

I am grateful to work in a profession where I can learn and provide a wide range of bodywork modalities to my clients. My goal is to be able to successfully address as many soft tissue concerns as possible within my scope of practice. My practice includes the following:

CranioSacral Therapy - I have completed CS1, CS2, SER1, Touching the Brain 1 and CranioSacral Therapy Working with Chronic Depletion. CS1 and CS2 provide the foundation for applying craniosacral techniques to any place on the body. SomatoEmotional Release allows for addressing the emotional component of tissue restrictions and for communicating with your inner healing sense. Touching the Brain supports the structure and function of the many systems within the brain and spinal cord. Working with Chronic Depletion provides a whole body approach to restriction releases, which can be more effective than the typical craniosacral approach if you have experienced inordinate stresses or long-term stress.

Visceral Manipulation - I have completed Listening 1, VM1, VM 2 and VM 4 (with VM3 in September 2023). VM1 - 4 address all of the organs and significant other structures within the torso, including techniques for releasing restrictions and for enhancing the mobility and motility of organs. Listening is an assessment technique to identify your body's current primary soft tissue restriction concern, whether it is within the torso or elsewhere. Any appropriate manual therapy approach can then be used to address that concern.

Orthopedic Massage is the use of assessment, treatment and rehabilitation protocols in order to more effectively apply massage techniques to a wide range of pain and injury conditions. This approach results in effective, long-term solutions.

Myofascial Release is a set of techniques to safely, gently and effectively address pain and postural imbalances caused by myofascial restrictions. Direct techniques apply gentle, sustained pressure to encourage restrictions to release and fascia to lengthen. Indirect techniques use gentle compression or traction to initiate the body's own release of held tension and restrictions, allowing for release of restrictions not directly accessible to the therapist.

Reiki can be translated as "Universal Life Energy". The term Reiki is shorthand for Usui Shiki Ryoho, or the Usui System of Natural Healing. Founded in the early 1900s in Japan, Reiki has spread throughout the world. The Reiki Masters I trained with have intended to practice and train as close as possible to how Reiki was originally practiced and taught. When I offer you Reiki, I place my hands on you to allow your body/mind/spirit to take what is needed from the universal life energy. It's a simple practice that can have profound results. And it's a practice you can perform on yourself, if you are trained. I am happy to talk with you about results I have experienced and how you can receive Reiki training.
