Lisa B McIntosh PT

I am a licensed physical therapist in Western North Carolina, outside of Lenoir.  I graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1991 and have practiced my love of physical therapy and helping people over the last 32 years.  I worked in the orthopedic/rehabilitation field, most of my career up until about 10 years ago.  At that time, I was asked by another PT to take over her pelvic floor practice as she was moving away. That started my journey out of the “normally” perceived field of a clinic based practice.  Away from insurance and administration.  I never looked back.  I began a fee-based practice from my home.  This gave me the freedom and time I needed to treat a client in a holistic manner.  

            This freedom allowed me to explore different methods of treating my patients and perhaps have a longer, more lasting result.  This journey led me to the Upledger Institute curriculum of studies in 2018.  Studying this curriculum, I felt as if I had found a home.  This was and still is a curriculum that challenges me on so many mental levels.  The big take home message was I didn’t know it all.  I wasn’t “Super PT woman”.  Working harder and deeper is NOT better.  Listening to what the body has to say, verbally or nonverbally, is key.   I am now more humbled.  I look forward to learn what each client will share with me as they come into my life. 

At present, my practice is based in my home.  The time with me is one on one.  I have a designated treatment room with a treatment table and soothing music.  I feel that’s pretty much all I need to get positive results.
