Julia Kegelman received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware in December 2006 and began working at The Back Clinic in 2007. In August 2012, after 5 years of continuing education study, she became certified in Functional Manual Therapy™ through the Institute of Physical Art. Functional Manual Therapy™ is a type of body work that is unique to Physical Therapy. It combines hands on work to mobilize both soft tissues and joints using active movement patterns of the client.  This work has a big emphasis on restoring efficient movement patterns used with daily activities needed to feel strong and balanced.

In 2014, she began exploring light touch manual skills including Barral’s Visceral Mobilization and Upledger’s Craniosacral therapy. This work quickly became the predominant type of manual therapy used for restoring the efficient range of motion needed to assume balanced postures and movement patterns. These techniques work at the body's own pace thereby limiting resistance to change and allowing for deep, long lasting changes.

Each session, time is taken to understand the client's current limitations and progress toward their future goals. She is always focused on restoring efficiency rather than normalcy.  And in turn, symptoms resolve and quality of life improves in even the most challenging cases.
