Laura K Wilson

PT, DPT, CST-T

About Me

Dr. Laura Wilson graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, IA with a BS in Psychology in 1992. She graduated with an MS in Physical Therapy from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA in 1999 and later returned to complete her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2004.  In 2017, Dr. Wilson earned her CST Techniques Certification and serves as a TA for CST Level I courses.  Additionally, she functions as a Primary Therapist/Support Therapist in the Comprehensive Therapy Program (CTP) and Dolphin Assisted Therapy (DAT) programs for Integrative Intentions, an Upledger Affiliate.

In her evolution as a practitioner, Dr. Laura has earned many certifications and done extensive training to be able to provide the fullest treatment experience for her patients.  She is a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist from the Back School of Atlanta; a Certified Weight Trainer through the International Weightlifting Association and is Certified in Integrative Dry Needling through the Integrative Dry Needling Institute.  Dr. Laura is advanced level trained in John Barnes Myofascial Release Technique.  In 2018, Dr. Laura went to Rishikesh, India to complete Tantra Hatha Yoga Level One Teacher Training Certification.

Dr. Laura is passionate about healing from the inside out.  She believes strongly in finding and treating the cause of a patient's pain and dysfunction, not merely treating the symptoms. She opened a private cash practice (Turning Point Physical Therapy) in 2014, dedicated to helping patients get to the root of long-standing injuries and pain.  Feeling the tide turn and the push in her personal life to move to California, Dr. Laura closed her successful practice in 2019 and relocated to Los Angeles, CA.  She became the Clinic Director for Performance Care Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Toluca Lake.  As it did for many of us, 2020 brought unexpected change.  Dr. Laura and her partner made the decision to return to Austin, TX in 2021 to open a joint practice combining nutrition, life coaching and metaphysics with the healing modalities she has practiced for the last 22 years.

Dr. Laura recognizes it is not enough to merely treat symptoms; true healing involves going to the origin of the problem and working through each layer as it appears, which can take time.  Thus, she offers one-on-one 60-90 minute sessions, in a safe, healing environment.  Intensives are available for more concentrated work that yields greater breakthroughs with amplified results. Her work is designed for individuals who are serious about going deeper in their healing process and have been let down by conventional medicine.

Dr. Laura acknowledges that an individual’s healing is proportional to the personal responsibility and ownership he/she is willing to take. She partners with her patients in helping them recover to the level they are comfortable with, at the pace they are ready for.

Mission Statement: To be a resource for patients who have not had the success they are looking for in their healing journey, and a facilitator in the restoration and recovery of each individual's health through healing of body, mind and spirit.

Treatment Philosophy: To treat the entire person, taking into account how physical problems are affecting one’s emotional, mental, energetic and spiritual state.  To blend and weave together the vast treatment modalities for the most complete session the body is asking for in the moment.

Unique Offering: Because of my licensure as a PT and specialized training in pelvic floor dysfunction, I have the unique ability to offer internal release treatment to those men and women who need it, then balance the work externally with craniosacral therapy.

Favorite Quotes
"The shortest distance between two points is intention."  -John Upledger, D.O.

“Healing is not about getting rid of symptoms. It’s about an individual wholeness that we remember instinctively the moment we touch it.”  -Jim Jealous, D.O.

“If we cannot see, hear, or feel the soul, there is no healing—just a rearrangement of symptoms.”  -Hugh Milne, D.O.

“Just because an answer isn’t apparent doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”  -Anonymous

Personally: "I love the outdoors and derive a lot of insight into life from being in and with nature.  It has helped me cultivate the ability to sit in silence for long periods of time, which is useful in the treatment room.  I take care of my physical body by working out at the gym lifting weights, trail running, stand up paddle boarding and kayaking . I have a deep spiritual life, reading ancient spiritual and metaphysical texts.  I'm a reluctant yogini..I practice Tantra Hatha Yoga once a week.  Admittedly, I'm a bit of a foodie and like to cook fancy food or go out for fabulous dining experiences.  I love to travel and enjoy spending time on the beach and in the ocean (if it's warm!)."

My Skills

Craniosacral Therapy: gentle, non-invasive technique to restore normal position and motion of the skull, spine, and sacrum to restore cerebrospinal fluid flow
Neural Manipulation: gentle, non-invasive technique focusing on the brain structures, spinal cord and nerves to restore firing and brain function
Visceral Manipulation: gentle, non-invasive technique that focuses on releasing restrictions of the internal organs and their influence on other associated structures and physiological function
Myofascial Release: a whole-body, hands-on technique that evaluates and releases restrictions in the fascial system. Fascia is a dense, connective tissue that covers all the tissues of the body (nerves, blood vessels, lymph vessels, bone, organs, muscle) like a spider-web. Tension in the fascia system creates compression of joints, blood vessels, etc. and can cause pain and dysfunction not found on imaging.
Men’s and Women’s Health: internal and external release work of pelvic floor organs
Muscle Energy Technique: this technique uses the patient’s own muscle strength to correct and restore normal joint position
Joint Mobilization: a technique which uses varying degrees of pressure on joints to restore position and decrease pain
Spinal Manipulation: a technique which combines high velocity, low amplitude motion to restore joint position and decrease pain
Manual Trigger Point Release: this technique uses pressure from thumb or elbow to break up trigger points
Integrative Dry Needling: non-pharmacological modality using a solid filament needle inserted into muscular trigger points, ligaments, and tendons for improved blood flow, decreased inflammation, decreased nerve sensitivity, muscle relaxation and restored homeostasis. May be used in combination with electrical stimulation for enhanced effect.
Biomechanical Analysis: analyzing movement patterns of common activities like walking, running, moving from sit to stand, etc.
Movement Training: retraining the neuro-motor patterns of movement for improved function, decreased pain
Custom Orthotics: measurements and casting to create a device specific to each patient’s foot, which fits in an athletic or dress shoe to correct structural deformities of the tibia, ankle or foot
