Dr. Cloe Couturier is driven by a passion for the study and practice of somatic health, and the healing of both the mind and body. She has always been fascinated with the brain and the central nervous system, and the body’s ability to self-heal. Born in France, she discovered daily meditation as a young girl, and with it, the recognition of how mental, physical and emotional balance contributes to complete, integrative health. After moving to the States, she decided to explore her calling professionally, and graduated from massage therapy school in 1989, where she found she had a talent for listening to the wisdom of other people’s bodies, and identifying unknown sources of pain and discomfort. But it wasn’t until her son was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 1990, that her real quest began. A DMD diagnosis comes with the expectation of a shortened life. Dr. Cloe was determined to find ways to help her child live his fullest, healthiest life.

She moved back to France to study osteopathy at the British College of Osteopathy and Alternative Therapeutics, in Paris, where she studied under well known osteopaths, such as Phil Beach, D.O., Andrew Kerr, D.O., and Phil Tanswell, D.O. Her education encompassed the classical study and practice of classic osteopathic manual manipulation, along with other modalities such as cranial osteopathy, visceral manipulation, muscle energy, and lymph drainage therapy. In 1993, after graduating with her Osteopathic Certification, she came back to the United States, and began studying craniosacral therapy.

Developed by John Upledger, D.O., at Michigan State University, craniosacral therapy uses gentle touch and cranial manipulation to help relieve stress and pain, and provide therapeutic, holistic benefits. Dr. Upledger was an innovator and internationally recognized for his investigations of new therapies, but it is his craniosacral therapy that has become most well known, and which is now embraced by thousands of practitioners in over 100 different countries.

In 1995, Dr. Couturier was invited by Dr. Upledger to join his clinic while he worked with her son. Since then, Dr. Couturier has become one of the foremost promoters of Upledger’s legacy. She is a Diplomate Upledger CranioSacral Therapist and the administrator of the “Craniosacral Voice" on Facebook. She has operated a family private practice for twenty two years at the Upledger Clinic, where she has developed a practice blending craniosacral therapy and Qigong with outstanding success.

In 1994, while teaching, Dr. Couturier met another teacher who would again change her life, Master Eduardo O’Campo, who introduced her to the practice and study of Medical QiGong. Thanks to him, she began a journey that would lead her to study under some of the world’s foremost Qigong Masters, experts like Master Binhui He, developer of Taiji Five-element Qigong, one of the major qigong systems used in clinical applications of qigong anti-cancer therapy, and Dr. Kevin Chen, who co-authored the first English translation of the official textbook of medical qigong and who now teaches Qigong in hospitals across the world.

She has also studied with Dr. Effie Chow, a world-renowned Qigong Grandmaster energy healer who is the organizer of the World Congress on Qigong. Dr. Couturier obtained her doctorate with the International Institute of Medical Qigong in 2012, studying under Professor Jerry Alan Johnson, one of the few internationally recognized non-Chinese Grand Masters, and Dr. Bernard Shannon, Executive Director of the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong. She has served on the faculty of the World Congress of QiGong since 1997, and in addition to her doctorate from the International Institute, she has received her Doctorate of Medical Qigong (DMQ) from the Western District Medical Qigong Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute. For the past two decades, Dr. Couturier has pioneered the blending of craniosacral therapy with medical qigong. She is an international speaker on the subject, and has developed several courses about combining the two practices to promote health, wellness, and natural healing. Dr. Cloe Couturier is a nationally certified advanced Qigong instructor level 3/4 and is nationally certified as an energy healing practitioner in the clinical (medical) qigong division.

"IF YOU DON'T PRACTICE, IT DOES NOT EXIST"

DR. CLOE COUTURIER

Patients around the world who could not find help anywhere else, under some of the most challenging conditions, have found greater health and happiness thanks to the quality of her unique skills, her passion for healing, and her years of education and experience.

She has had many brilliant teachers who are masters and innovators in their fields. But she finds the truest testament to these practices in the life of her greatest teacher, her son. Twenty seven years ago, her journey started when she was told by a neurologist her son would not live past his teens.

He passed at 31, after living his happiest, healthiest life, surrounded by people who loved him. Through her relationship with him, Dr. Couturier learned again daily that life is precious and short, and it is meant to be lived and appreciated to its fullest. She feels there can be no greater lesson, as every moment is a miracle and a blessing for which we ought to be continuously grateful.
