Roy Desjarlais
LMT, CST-D With a bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida, Mr. Desjarlais spent six years as an advertising art director before pursuing his lifelong fascination with the human body. In 1987 he graduated from the Reese Institute School of Massage Therapy in Oviedo, Fla. In addition to running a successful private therapy practice, Mr. Desjarlais went on to serve as director of career development and internship at the Reese Institute. He successfully placed internship programs at the athletic departments of The University of Central Florida and Rollins College, and in Orlando Regional Medical Center's oncology ward. He also taught Swedish massage, tissue mobilization and palpation skills at both Reese and the Florida School of Acupuncture. In 1994, Mr. Desjarlais left central Florida to become an instructor and full-time staff member at The Upledger Institute. He has since taught more than 100 classes in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe. As CranioSacral Therapy I Program Director, Mr. Desjarlais manages all phases of The Upledger Institute's rigorous instructor-certification program for CranioSacral Therapy I. He conducts teacher-training tutorials in U.S. and Europe, and he co-chairs biannual curriculum meetings for UI instructors. He is also a certified examiner for the CranioSacral Therapy Certification Program. As a staff clinician at The Upledger Institute Clinic, Mr. Desjarlais practices CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release® on dozens of clients each week. His caseload includes up to 75% children and many end-range patients with conditions such as birth traumas, genetic defects, neurological disorders, structural traumas, headaches, neck aches, back aches and many others. He also performs patient therapy in one- and two-week intensive therapy programs. Mr. Desjarlais continues to explore new avenues of health and healing. He often presents thought-provoking bodywork topics in national trade publications, and in TV, radio and Internet interviews. Additionally, he has been a featured speaker at international research conferences, as well as state conventions for the American Massage Therapy Association and Florida Chiropractic Association.
