About Me

Christoph Sommer, (HP- Germany)

Rolfing® - Strukturelle Integration

Osteopathie nach Jean-Pierre Barral

Christoph Sommer, HP, completed his foundational manual therapy education at the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration. He is a certified Rolfing® Instructor for both the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and the European Rolfing® Association e.V. Since 1986, he has maintained a private practice in Munich, Germany, specializing in hands-on approaches to the treatment of the human body.

Committed to ongoing professional development, Christoph has pursued extensive postgraduate training across multiple manual and somatic disciplines. His studies include CranioSacral Therapy at the Upledger Institute, advanced training with numerous Rolfing® instructors, and in-depth work with Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing), Ron Kurtz (founder of the Hakomi Method of body-centered psychotherapy), and Hubert Godard (Rolfing Movement Instructor and former Dean at Université Paris IV). He has also studied with Dr. phil. Peter Schwind, founder of the Fascia and Membrane Technique.

Christoph began his studies in Visceral Manipulation with Jean-Pierre Barral, DO, in Germany in 1989 and has closely followed the evolution of this work ever since. The underlying principles of Barral’s approach—respect for the organism, precise evaluation through educated and “listening” hands, and the use of minimal force—have profoundly influenced Christoph’s clinical practice. He has found these principles to be highly effective in supporting consistent, sustainable therapeutic outcomes.

Earlier in his career, Christoph collaborated with Jean-Pierre Barral and Peter Schwind in the founding of the Munich Group for interdisciplinary manual treatment modalities, an initiative that supported collaboration and education across manual therapy disciplines.

Since 2001, Christoph has been teaching many levels of Barral’s work, including the original approaches of Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation, through the Barral Institute. He also teaches postgraduate courses at osteopathic schools throughout Europe.
